CHILDREN OF UNAWATUNA

You will be pleased to know that Julie and I handed over the sum of €5,412.60 to Aruna Pussewala, the organiser of the charity “Children of Unawatuna” in Hamburg last Saturday. He and his fellow committee members were extremely grateful for our efforts, which we achieved in memory of our friend Bettina, who died in the tsunami.

Having just returned from Sri Lanka, Aruna was able to give us an update on the project and his report was extremely heartening. Fifty orphans are being helped towards a secure future, given a sound education and, most importantly, support in overcoming their trauma both physically and mentally. We are reassured that every rupee is going directly to the children’s welfare and will continue to do so until each one reaches the age of 18.
